06 Feb Cultivate A More Conscious Lifestyle
With the increase of climate change related tragedies, it’s more important than ever to cultivate a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Small changes make a big difference and there are plenty of ways you can support the environment and make our land and sea a safer place for everyone.
Support eco-friendly brands- With more brands practicing sustainability, it’s easier than it was 10 years ago to shop with companies that have your values. So many brands from the food industry to clothes to protein powder are focusing on reducing waste. There’s little reason to shop from anywhere else.
Eat less meat- We’re not telling anyone they have to become a vegetarian or vegan – but simply cutting down your meat intake can make a huge impact. Over 30 percent of the Earth is being used to raise livestock. With so many delicious alternatives, there are so many ways you can have your meat and eat it too. Replace your hamburger with a Beyond Meat Beyond Burger or Impossible Foods Impossible Burger. You’ll barely be able to tell the difference and you’ll be making a huge difference in the long run.
Recycle– Yup, you knew this one was coming. Most places have recycle bins these days and it’s really easy to do. If you’re not sure where one is near you, you can find out on websites like Waste Management. With so many great online resources, you can find our what to recycle (or not) with a click of a button. Recycling is a simple method to live green.
Reusable bags- Gone are the days of getting 10 plastic bags at the grocery store. You can buy a sturdy reusable bag for as low as $5.00 to last you a long time. It’s a great way to use less paper or plastic. Plus, if your local store charges for each bag, then you’ll come out saving money too.
Wash clothes on cold- According to The Worldwatch Institute, 85 percent of the energy used to wash clothes goes to heating the water. Whenever you can, try to machine-wash your clothes on cold. Your clothes will still come out fantastic and you’ll be using a tremendously less amount of energy.
Buy a water filter– These days, there are water filters at different price points whether you’re on a budget or livin’ large. Water filters reduce the number of water bottles you have to buy, ultimately saving you money. Plastic is an endocrine disruptor, so it not only effects the planet – but it also affects you.
Switch up your appliances– Only heating up a portion for 2? Use your toaster oven instead of using your conventional oven. Not only does it use less energy, but it’s also cheaper and usually quicker. Need to toast something quickly? Use the toaster instead of your toaster oven. These small changes matter and are steps toward becoming more environmentally conscious.
Carpool– Whether this means you Uber pool or you ask a nearby friend to pick you up, they both reduce carbon emissions. Carpooling is an underrated way to save money and benefit the environment. Try to find a coworker that lives near you to carpool to work together. You might make a new friend and benefit the planet at the same time.
