6 Major Reasons to Stay Away From Sugar


It’s funny how in life, some of the best tasting things are the worst for you. Sugar is one of those ‘taste so good, but i know it’s bad’ substances. It can be harmful to your metabolism and also contributes to all sorts of diseases. Don’t give up yet though, there are healthy alternatives – our favorite is Monk Fruit!

  Sugar Contains No Essential Nutrients

Sugar is just a bunch of calories and no essential nutrients. It’s basically a filler (that tastes good) of calories that do nothing. There’s no protein or vitamins and minerals and eating too many foods with sugars can lead to nutrient deficiencies.

Once sugar is ingested, it ends up attaching itself to proteins which is a process called glycation. When this happens in your body, it leads to the loss of elasticity which can accelerate the aging process. The more sugar in your bloodstream, the faster this process happens so avoid it as much as your can!

This could increase your stress levels and also make you feel angry or frustrated.

Foods that can quickly affect blood sugar put you at risk of becoming obese and developing diabetes and heart disease. Research has also been shown to have connections with many different forms of cancer. Sugar can also be addictive to many people. It can activate the ‘reward’ center of our brain the same way drugs might, and provoke craving and withdrawal symptoms.


  Causes Tooth Decay

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, sweets cause tooth decay. When sugar sits on your teeth, it decays them more than any other substance. It can also cause infection in your gums that can lead to coronary artery disease. Sugar attracts bad bacteria and lowers your mouth’s pH which can destroy the tooth’s enamel and cause cavities.

There has been a connection between blood sugar and mood, especially when eating high sugar foods which can cause a spike or crash. The more unstable your blood sugar is the more unstable your mood will be.
